Beauty Abounds - Pop-Up Butterfly Card - Day 7 - Video Tutorial

Good Morning! :o)

I have a bonus Video for you today showing you how I made these Pop-Up Butterfly cards.

Several weeks ago I came across a gorgeous card by Dee Slater and I fell in love with it :o) I have had a Pop-Up card in my head for months (not using this stamp set) but I hadn't got around to creating it. I haven't made a Pop-Up before and I think that's partly why. However, Dee's method was so simple and straight forward I just had to try it out. Now I may even get around to making the one that's been in my head so long! :o)

When you open the cards the Butterflies pop up and stand out in front of the back panel ... they look lovely!

The papers I used for these cards all come from the Share What You Love 12" Speciality pack.

This is the actual card I created in the Video. I remembered to emboss the front panel with the Subtle folder after I had coloured it this time. On my original card, I forgot and stuck it down too quickly. I really like both cards, but love the texture you get with this folder.

The image was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and coloured using the Stampin' Blends. We don't have all the matching colours in the Blends, so I had to improvise but you can't really tell that some of the colours I used were different from those used in the paper :o)

The mechanism used to create the Pop-Up is a simple paper rectangle. Dee used Vellum and made hers quite a bit longer. You could also use Window Sheet (acetate) if you prefer.

I used paper because I didn't want it to be too obvious it was there when the card is viewed.

On my original card, I used just one tiny strip of paper but noticed after the card was made that you were able to see the reverse side of the strip which had a different pattern/colour on it ... which I didn't like.

So for my Video I tried with two strips and glued them back to back so the design would be the same on both sides. This worked fine, but made the card just a tiny bit bulkier. I also found that because the mechanism was thicker (this paper is heavier than our normal) it needed a little extra glue and drying time to get it to stay in place! It works fine though :o)

Here is the Video ...
